The CARS Analyser has been developed by CARS with funding from the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council (NMVTRC) and is your direct interface to the CARS database.
The Analyser is password protected and you must seek approval from the NMVTRC to access it via an online application form on the www.carsafe.com.au
website.
While the annual and quarterly statistical reports are important in identifying trends, the extensive amount of detail can sometimes be overwhelming. Often one is simply interested in finding out about the theft and/or recoveries of a particular vehicle, a particular region or for a different time period than covered in the printed reports.
To meet this need, CARS have developed a web-based application to enable stakeholders to undertake their own analysis and interrogation of the CARS database. CARS Analyser employs a user friendly 'wizard' style of interface that guides users through a number of steps and it places users in the 'driving seat' by providing them with the ability to ask questions and queries of the CARS data and get instant responses all from the comfort of their home or office.
Now you can directly ask questions such as:
"How many Nissan 200SX have been stolen during the last 12 months?"
"Which postcodes are associated with the highest theft rates of Hyundai Excels?"
"What percentage of the BMW M3s stolen during the last 2 months have been recovered?"
"What is the average insurance theft claim cost for an 1999 Falcon AU?"
"Which vehicles have the lowest recovery rates?"
CARS Analyser allows users to query the data applying filters relating to:
For those jurisdictions where more detailed data is supplied CARS Analyser allows users to query this extra information and ask questions such as:
"How many stolen vehicles recovered in South Australia were located burnt?"
"How many had panels removed?"
"What proportion of WA thefts were attributed to joyriders?"
"What were the most common methods of entry?"
"What was the average age of vehicles stolen for joyriding?"
"What was the average pre-theft value of vehicles stolen in the postcode range 5008 - 5013?"
Once your query has completed the results will be displayed on your screen. Depending on the complexity of your query you may be able to use the + or - symbols to drill down to different levels of summarisation.
Although CARS Analyser does use the same data as stored in the full CARS database, it is a subset with certain fields excluded for confidentiality reasons or because they are not considered sufficiently reliable. When using CARS Analyser users are reminded that the database is dependent on the accuracy of the data supplied. While CARS does undertake some edit and validity checks of the data, comprehensive data purification is beyond the scope of this project. Users are therefore advised to always check the results carefully and understand that since we are using operational data from a range of sources there will be a small degree of inaccuracy inherent in the data. All users are advised to read the disclaimer notice before using CARS Analyser.
